As of May 17, 2021 *, US authorities had accumulated more than 32.9 million infections. The state of California has the most cases with more than 3.7 million corona infections. New Jersey and New York have the highest death rates. The underlying coronavirus has now spread to more than 190 countries. The highest case numbers are currently reported from the USA, Brazil, India and Russia. In Europe, Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom have the most corona infections.

Where did the corona outbreak begin?

On December 31, 2019, the WHO country office in China was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology that had been found in the metropolis of Wuhan in Hubei province. A novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was identified as the causative virus on January 7th by the Chinese authorities. The original site of infection was the Wuhan wholesale market for fish and seafood, from where the virus first spread to neighboring countries and then almost all over the world within a few weeks.
