It's Ramadan again! The holy month of Muslims when the Quran was revealed and when Muslims around the world observe their fast in memory of Allah (t) from sunrise to sunset. With the holy month come the nights in the mosque, the intensive reading and study of the Qur'an, communal get-togethers and also the yearly recurring situations - sometimes funny, but sometimes nerve-wracking - that simply belong to every Ramadan.

1. Everyone is staring at the moon

Was he spotted or not? Does Ramadan start now or do we have another day? We ask this question anew every year. But it gets particularly tricky when some have seen him and the others have not. Then the litter separates from the wheat and some fast and the others do not yet. This is also the case from time to time oath-Fested not on the same day. Because even at the end of Ramadan everyone is waiting eagerly for the moon sighting. When can we celebrate and more importantly: do we celebrate together?

This question concerns both Muslims who cannot fast because they are sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, etc., as well as non-Muslims who are ashamed to eat in front of others. 3. Turn night into day

What for non-Muslims has more to do with partying and intoxication takes on a completely different meaning for Muslims in Ramadan. Especially on the long summer days, not only are the fasting hours plentiful, that too Taraweh- Prayer likes to drag on into the night. 7. The Imam's pace is simply not right

Who doesn't know that Taraweh-Gymnastics exercises ?! There you just have Takbeer done and already the imam goes into the Rukuh. The congregation prays up to 20 times in rapid succession. We leave the mosque completely out of breath, but we could hardly believe a thought of Allah. Or just the opposite happens: the Imam feels like reading the entire Quran in one Rakaat. In such a slow and monotonous way that your eyes will close. After all, it's already 12:30 a.m. and almost everyone has to get up early in the morning. The feet hurt from standing for a long time, everyone only dreams of their beds and thinks about what to do next Suhur could eat ...

8. A nap instead of lunch

Since we spend the nights eating (and hopefully also) praying, we have to catch up on our sleep at some point. Our energy reserves run out faster because we simply don't get any for a long time. What is better than using the lunch time, which is canceled anyway? Anyone who has a prayer room available can consider themselves lucky.

Contrary to the idea of ​​being able to shed a few extra pounds in Ramadan (no, that is not our main intention, but a nice side effect), the scale shows two kilos more after half of Ramadan than before. Not eating anything during the day is no guarantee of weight loss if you fill your stomach in the evening. Especially not if that Iftar consists of butter rice, chicken legs, börek and baklava.

10. Before you know it, it's over again

In the beginning, hardly anyone can imagine how one can live without food and drink for 30 days. But it's Ramadan and we all have to go through it! We make our plans: read the Qur'an, a Doa memorize to Iftar invite you to go out to eat all the mosques in the city Taraweh check out, donate a grocery package here and one there Sadaqah make. But no sooner have we got used to fasting than the last third approaches and we realize that we haven't even remotely achieved what we actually set out to do. So the last ten nights sometimes turn into a sprint. Hopefully we will focus on the services and skip one or the other social meal.

But joking aside ...

Ramadan is a holy and special time for us Muslims. It is the month of mercy. We are lucky with our little problems and should be grateful to Allah for all the gifts He has given us. Not all people have the option of a lush Ramadan Iftar to enjoy or choose what to use Suhur like to eat. They have to get by with what is available to them, if anything!
