How do smoke alarms use americium

Disposal of ionization smoke detectors

Dispose of ionization smoke detectors safely and properly

Ionization smoke detectors (short: I-detectors) are smoke detectors that contain a small amount of a radioactive substance such as americium, radium or krypton. The disposal and transport process requires compliance with the ElektroG, the Radiation Protection Act and the Hazardous Goods Ordinance. The handling of radioactive sources also requires a handling permit.

background

The Radiation Protection Act (StrlSchG) of the Federal Republic of Germany implements Directive 2013/59 / Euratom into national law. It contains regulations for the protection of people and - insofar as long-term protection of human health is concerned - the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. With the law, the federal German radiation protection law, which was previously based on the Atomic Energy Act and the Precautionary Radiation Protection Act, is given an independent and uniform basis. As a result, regulations are merged that were previously contained in the Radiation Protection Ordinance and the X-ray Ordinance. Numerous specifications are updated and adapted to the state of scientific progress.

Our customers like to use our personal and free advice. From the handling permit to the legally compliant transport of the radioactive sources - we take on all obligations relating to disposal.

Disposal is a matter of trust

We have established ourselves on the market in the field of disposal of I-detectors since 2000. In addition to manufacturers, more than 800 other companies such as installation companies, planning and engineering offices and disposal companies use the services of our trained radiation protection experts. Our customers rely on the officially monitored processes in our facility for the treatment of weakly radioactive sources.

We also take over your optical smoke alarms as well as other weakly radioactive sources from product areas such as B. medical and measurement technology. When placing an order, you will receive all important and necessary documents, such as B. the transport papers, sent directly from us. We organize the transport for you and send you the disposal certificate after the disposal.
