How is it that toilets do not use hot water

Clearing clogged toilet with detergent

Hot water and detergent form a perfect duo

If a toilet becomes clogged in the “normal” way and a plug of dirt has formed in the pipe, simply pouring hot water and detergent into it can make the plug lose its hold. The detergent is used as a lubricant and the water as a "workhorse".

1. A generous amount of pure detergent is injected into the toilet bowl. In this case the motto “a lot helps a lot” applies. It can also be half a bottle.

2. The detergent should sink and spread for two to five minutes. The higher the accumulated dirty water is in the bowl, the longer you should wait.

3. Boiled water that no longer bubbles and is still around ninety degrees Celsius is poured into the bowl from a height of fifty centimeters to one meter. The amount depends on the level of the dirty water.

4. Since many blockages do not block completely, but sometimes allow the dirty water level to drop after a while, it can make sense to gain a few millimeters or centimeters of free space by waiting accordingly.

5. If the blockage does not clear immediately, wait at least thirty minutes before attempting to flush. To avoid flooding, the toilet bowl should not be filled up to the lower edge of the flush rim.

Dish soap lubricates like no other auxiliary agent

The "lubricating" effect of detergent can also be used when the flow of water is stiff, toilet paper has not been flushed away and there is partial blockage. The at least occasional cleaning with detergent creates the smooth environment that is unfavorable for the dirt.

As an alternative to washing-up liquid, vinegar or soap can also be used, but both of these do not make the pipe walls so smooth. It is important to use a "normal" detergent with surfactants. Some ecological variants with substitutes are similarly limited as the alternatives. To prevent clogging, the amount of toilet paper per person and wash cycle should not exceed three servings.

Post-processing and provoke slipping

If the detergent-water method is unsuccessful, a suction bell or a plunger or plunger should be attached or a pipe cleaning spiral should be screwed into the pipe opening. In most cases, the detergent does at least a good preparatory job and increases the chances of success for these mechanical methods. The method cannot be repeated.

Even if the blockage does not clear when you rinse, you have definitely weakened the dirt plug. Poke around and "pump" around the dirty water with your toilet brush. So there is a chance that you will still trigger the slipping.
