Dealing with literary texts generally plays a rather subordinate role in French lessons in secondary school. However, since the paradigm shift towards output and competence orientation, this marginalization of literary-aesthetic reading has manifested itself to an even greater extent in foreign language teaching in secondary school. Dealing with literature in foreign language lessons can make a significant contribution to personal development and the ability to participate in society, but also to the expansion of functional and communicative skills. This article presents a research project that develops and tests possibilities for initiating literary-aesthetic reading processes and at the same time conceives and evaluates a scaffolding concept for literary-aesthetic reading against the background of a heterogeneity of students in secondary school. The aim is both to contribute to the formation of theories in relation to the characteristics and didactic conceptions of literary-aesthetic reading and at the same time to develop a reference design that can serve as a basis for practical teaching work in French lessons in secondary school.
