What online games are trending this year

Gaming trends 2020: this is how to gamble in the coming year

Security when gambling

Games that are played on the network will continue to gain in importance in the years to come. Players from all over the world compete against each other. The connection is of course made via the Internet.

However, in order for all of this to run smoothly, the networks used should be extremely secure. Consoles such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, among others, have to constantly upgrade to ensure that cyber criminals, for example, cannot access sensitive data. You can make do with a VPN network, which can ensure safer communication over the Internet by preventing gamers from being monitored.

Mobile gaming with 5G

The new 5G mobile communications standard was only launched in Germany this year. In the future, he can ensure that gaming on mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets, continues to develop rapidly. Game files of several gigabytes can be downloaded in seconds thanks to this technology. The constantly strong connection also provides more options for online gaming on the go.

But the devices are also developing rapidly here. Today's smartphones offer ever more stable processors and more powerful graphics units. They are also necessary if you look at what mobile phones will have to be able to do in terms of gaming technology in the future: animations, 3D graphics, virtual and augmented reality are just a few of the examples.

Virtual reality as the future of gaming?

Video games are often played to escape everyday life and immerse yourself in other worlds. Virtual reality should make this immersion even more intense. So far there are several manufacturers on the market who offer so-called VR glasses. However, the number of games is still manageable - and the trend is rising. A recent study by Bitkom shows that every fifth person in Germany has already tried VR glasses. It also says that the fascination of virtual reality and the related augmented reality is reaching more and more people.

Game and reality merge

Augmented Reality makes it possible for boundaries to become blurred. This digital trend had its big breakthrough with the launch of the mobile game "Pokémon Go". For example, you are out and about with your smartphone and are guided by your map on the screen, which corresponds to a map of the surroundings. The view can be switched to camera mode, in which one observes one's surroundings through the lens and the so-called Pokémon 3-D animated are built into this view.

"Pokémon Go" is a good example of how reality can merge with a game via the smartphone. The success of this technology speaks for itself: by the end of 2018, the mobile game had been downloaded over 1 billion times worldwide.

Game flat

The flat rate principle has already established itself in music and films. Just think of Netflix or Spotify. For video games, however, this type of flat rate has not yet established itself. Although there are already a number of offers from developers, such as “Steam” for PC gamers or “Playstation Plus” from Sony.

The disadvantage, however, is that you can only compare music and films with video games to a limited extent, as you usually have to spend more time on the latter. It is therefore possible that such subscription formats are not necessarily worthwhile for gamers. Something should be done here in the coming years to keep players happy.

Cross-platform play

This is a standard that will probably continue to prevail in the near future. Regardless of which medium (console, PC or mobile) a game is used, online gamers can still play with each other or against each other. Currently there are already some cross-play-capable titles, such as "Dauntless", "Fornite" or "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare". Here the selection will probably increase further in the coming years.

We can look forward to these games

The year 2020 has quite a few highlights from all possible genres in store for passionate gamers. These include offshoots of classics such as "Call of Duty", "Fallout", "Watchdogs" or "The Settlers". There will even be a remake of the legendary "Final Fantasy VII" in spring 2020. The game has been completely modernized and equipped with new graphics and a fresh combat system.

Nevertheless, there are still some question marks as to whether these developments will really happen. In the end, it is up to the users and the players how they take up new trends and develop existing ones. Especially in the field of mobile gaming, one can wait with excitement to see what exactly will still be possible with the new 5G cellular standard.
