What are the most musically sounding engines

Sounding ReformationThe musical anniversary yield

The round anniversaries of the beginning of the Reformation have always been celebrated on a grand scale. But compared to the previous anniversaries, 2017 saw the topic dealt with outside of the church in unprecedented dimensions. Even if one largely ignores publications on the life, environment and theology of Martin Luther and only looks at his musical achievements, one can reap a rich harvest. Luther's songs, the "lighthouses of the Reformation" (Martin Geck), have been newly compiled and commented, classified in the general musical Reformation efforts of his time and examined in terms of their significance for church music in the following centuries. New CD recordings put the Luther chorals in the musical context of his era and present new settings from the baroque to the present - here the stylistic spectrum even extends to jazz improvisations and pop oratorios. It is also worth taking a look at the world of music festivals, many of which have dedicated themselves to the Reformation this year. In conversations with authors, organizers and performers, the program looks for focal points and outstanding findings from the current anniversary of the Reformation, and asks whether this is not all too much.
